I found a cool planet generator
https://experilous.com/1/planet-generat ... /version-2

It uses plates and it also generates temperature among other things.

Wonderful!

Does it grant a license for use of the maps in commercial products?

I am lousy with legal-speak, but the planet generator appears to be very generous; the javascript source is even available. In a forum concerning this, the author, Andy Gainey said..
Quote:
@MacK, absolutely! The script is offered under the Fair License (http://opensource.org/licenses/Fair), so that ought to give you all the leeway you would need. Good luck and have fun!

There is also a for-sale (8.00 USD) that is written in C++, I think and should be loads faster with extra features.
Woldbuilder is based off 'planet generator'. A free demo appears to be available.

If the site doesn't have the legal info you need, I'd bet that an email to Andy Gainey could get an answer.

at least this is what I found on the main website...

Thanks for posting the links, Ishmael!

I managed to crash the online version a couple times, so maybe I'll try the downloadable version. $8 is far cheaper than the $40-$50 versions I've seen, but the system requirements may be more than my system can handle, assuming that's RAM and not ROM.
