I seem to be living in plague central at the moment, so I hope you're all well and comfortable and that your lives haven't been horribly disrupted.

I can't imagine going through this without internet! I'm grateful that nerdy sites like this are around.

Canada is not doing too bad (yet), but we're staying in! Meanwhile, back home in the UK it looks like they're going to go the way of Italy within the week unless they lock down now. :( The reality is though that this is going to seriously disrupt peoples' lives, but if we're smart about it it won't be for too long.

Please please PLEASE everyone - stay away from people and wash your hands, especially if you're older or vulnerable due to health issues. Even if your govt isn't telling you to do that yet - it's just the smart thing to do and you won't be someone who can spread it to vulnerable people (and hopefully won't catch it yourself too). We can get through this if we don't panic.

And remember - if you want to socialise you can still do it online. We regularly play boardgames on thursdays here and we struggled through setting up Tabletop Simulator (TTS) and Discord on our computers last night and managed to do that (and talk to eachother too). You can also do the same with RPGs too using Roll20 for D&D, and other software (even TTS). I may start another thread on getting that sort of thing set up if you're interested.

Here in the UK the main people out and about are:
1. Folk who did not panic buy toilet rolls/pasta/baked beans, so they are now having to visit every shop in a 5 mile radius to get some.
2. Young people who have decided they are immortal and are therefore still visiting pubs and clubs and takeaways. They were making a big thing of this on the news last night.
3. People who have to go to work because they have no choice (economically, rather than because they work in healthcare). The serviced let flats by me still has a succession of construction workers staying there and heading off to work every morning.
4. My mum. Because a global pandemic is not a good enough reason to avoid going to the garden centre.

well the UK pubs etc are closing as of tonight (whether their owners or Boris Johnson's dad wants them to or not!).

And yeah, it seems like we have to physically tie the olds down to stop them from leaving their houses...

The idiot kids partying it up in big groups on the beaches in Spring Break that I saw on the BBC are an example of why the US is going to be screwed by this though. They're already ahead of the curve in time compared to other countries because they haven't taken it seriously enough.

I don't think the Earth has been better in ages, what with the drastic cut in pollution! It's just the people on it that are sick :P

I have mild flu-like symptoms, which are almost certainly a mild case of flu. But I had to pull out from an in-person wine-tasting and board-gaming weekend, because no-one wants to be coughing and spluttering for a week in the current circumstances.

Right now everyone should be pulling out of everything that is "in person", no matter where they are. Stay at home. Stay social online or on the phone, but in-person socialising with others is a risk to everyone.

Some of us *have* to work in person. You can´t deliver food via home office.

Actually, just today my employer issued me card that says my job is part of critical infrastructure, and that I would thus be exempt from lockdowns, as far as working, and getting to work and back, are concerned.

But, yeah, we´re reducing direct customer contact as much as possible. Unless the customer is bedridden or in a wheelchair, we leave their food in front of the apartment door rather than coming in and giving it to them in person.

Yeah unfortunately some folks have to stay up and running (and we appreciate you doing that!).

It's funny now... cashiers for example - in "the Before Times" it was just this usual ritual of go up to till, they say 'hi how are you', I say 'hi fine thanks, you' and then they get on with scanning and packing. Now it's go up to till, they say 'hi how are you', I'd be more inclined to say "HOW ARE YOU DOING ARE YOU OK IN ALL THIS THANKS SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING". I'd never ever dream of being unpleasant to them, though I know there are some dickheads around who have been. But now they (and delivery people) have suddenly become Very Important People along with the doctors and nurses etc. Funny how things go.

So if you're part of that critical infrastructure then good on you, I really appreciate you doing that - but also be sure to TAKE CARE AND STAY AS SAFE AS YOU CAN!
