It seems that the forum software has a little problem with the capital letter "W",
at least in my browser it looks slightly pale and is a bit difficult to read.

I suspect it's an issue with your browser, not the forum software (we've not changed the forum software, but IIRC you have changed your browser recently ;) ).

I changed to Firefox 4 a few days ago and the default font that the browser uses to render text seems to have changed slightly - I've noticed the W is looking a bit thin in that now (I just compared it with IE8 and the W is more visible there). Maybe IE9's done the same thing.

Try changing the default font used in your browser's options and see what happens? (make a note of what's there already though, in case you don't like the new one!).

Hmmm .... SFRPG is the only forum, where this "W-Effect" is visible,
in all the other forums I visit the "W" does not suffer from this ano-
rexia problem ...

Ah, as long as the other letters continue to behave, I have no reason
to complain. :D

Huh, interesting. Yeah, it looks like phpbb3 boards have the issue, but vbulletin doesn't. It could be that they're telling browsers to use different default fonts now?

We haven't changed anything here, but I suspect the new generation of browsers is rendering fonts differently now, and couldn't do that before. I can see if I can fiddle with any settings backstage to get the phpbb3 to tell the browser to use a different font without the thinning issue?

I do not think that it would be worth the time and effort, it is really only
a very minor thing, I just wondered what the reason could be. :)

Oh, and it caused me to take a look at the background settings of my
browser, where I discovered that the default for the font was Windows
XP. I have now changed it to Vista, and it definitely looks better, al-
though the "W" remains thinner than the other letters.

Yeah, I think I'd have to dig around in the style settings, which may be too much hassle... I did notice it myself though, so you're not alone ;).

While I was rooting around in the settings I did spot that I could turn on "Quick Reply" for all the boards, so (if you couldn't before) you can now reply to threads using the message window at the bottom of the thread as well as by hitting the "Post Reply" button and going to the full editor directly.

There's a known issue with IE9 and ClearType; apparently, not only does it force ClearType on when it's off by default, it may also be using whatever settings IT wants rather than what the user might have found optimal even when it's on. There's more info on this scattered about the MS user-to-user forums.

I hope that one of the dozens of updates and patches Microsoft usually
sends my way immediately after they have published something new
will eliminate the problem. ;)

Seriously, give Firefox a go, it'll save you a lot of hassle. Plus it has add-ons and plugins that will remove ads and other unnecessary stuff from the web.
