A planet's magnetic field is believed to be generated by a dynamo effect within the core. Tidelocking slows down the rotational period of the planet so it matches the period of revolution. If the loss of rotational speed affects the dynamo, the magnetic field weakens.

I could of course be wrong, but then again, I'm just an amateur. :)

I think the planet would need to have a reasonably fast rotation to be able to generate currents in its core strong enough to create a planetary-scale magnetic field, so I would think that the magnetic field of tidelocked worlds with orbits longer than a few days or so would be pretty weak.

What about worlds with a resonance orbit, such as Mercury. Mercury is in a 3:2 resonance between orbit and rotation. I believe it has a weak magnetic field. I would think something like this situation could allow the core to keep rotating, quite a bit slower obviously, but you could have a weak magnetic field. I do not know if that field would be strong enough to produce the shielding necessary for life though...
