I am off on my yearly pilgrimage to the Pennsic War, indeed, in one of the biggest heatwaves of the year. When operating your campaign, don’t forget that your party is often made up of characters out of their native element. Today's science fiction often portrays a multitude of environments and atmospheres as well as gravities. in other words, not all the characters are used to the climate in which they are currently traveling. All it takes is a few iotas of variation to physically and mentally affect PCs.

Here are this month’s releases.

IF Threats, The Cymark
AVG 3100-2.0- CY
19 Pages
$5.99
A. J. Kenning

The Cymark
At heart, the Cymark are a xenophobic and highly aggressive species that shows no regard for the lives and property of other beings. For them, the fact that such things as “non-Cymark civilizations” even exist is an intolerable offense—a blight upon the purity of the Universe.

Still, they have not attempted interstellar genocide. Yet.

So far, they have settled for destroying aliens who comes within their reach, slaughtering everyone and stripping the place bare—ships, outposts, even entire colonies. Simply traveling near Cymark space is considered a high-danger occupation. Few independent pilots will dare to do so without a full military escort. And even then, they might think twice.

Check out this new supplement for Infinite Futures, or use to spice up your own space campaigns!

IF Threats, The Tealnik
AVG 3100-2.0- TE
17 Pages
$5.99
A. J. Kenning

The Tealnik are an old-fashioned people who fiercely believe in a strongly decentralized government. They are constantly fighting one another in ancient family feuds, duels of honor, and wars of aggression. Though they are isolationists who are uncomfortable interacting with members of other species, the Tealnik readily venture far into the Fringe in order to find dangerous beasts to hunt and worthy forces to battle with in order to further increase their personal honor. Their planetary holdings are an old-world mixture of teeming cities, vast rural tracts, and heavily restricted wilderness areas (hunting preserves).

In the vastness of space, few will ever see a Tealnik; those few that do will never see them coming.

IF Threats, Star Marshals
AVG 3100-2.0- SM

$5.99
A. J. Kenning

The Star Marshals
The Federation is a union of a number of planets and allied species of various kinds. Federation Known Space is a territory shaped a lot like an egg. The most advanced part of Known Space, the Core Worlds, are the yoke, while the expanse beyond that yoke is an untamed wilderness called The Fringe. And beyond the Fringe lies the Unknown.

The Fringe is largely a lawless place, despite being nominally under Federation control. While influence from the Federation planets does exist, that influence is spread too thin and to wide. At the same time, the many worlds of the Fringe hold the promise of freedom and vast stores of unspoiled resources ready for the taking. In such a place, the lawless thrive. Vast fortunes are made...by the pirate and mercenary bands that prey on the weak and helpless. Not to mention the corporate conglomerates, who exploit their workers in any number of ways, far from the watchful eye of the Federation enforcement agencies.

In this dangerous realm, small colonies largely depend upon the meager resources their corporate sponsors choose to send them, or in some cases must hire their own militias and protection at an expense that they can ill-afford. Concepts such as “Law and Order” are thus thought as something that is bought and sold, going to the highest bidder.

In such a realm, there is little respect and less money dedicated to active police. And most of what few such organizations there are thought of as ineffectual at best, corrupt or incompetent at worst. They are also underpaid and overworked. There are, though, a dedicated few who still try to keep the peace and bring law and order to the outlaw worlds of this wild region – the famed Star Marshals.
3
The Star Marshals are an elite law enforcement outfit under the nominal control of the Federation. The core stated goal of the Star Marshals is to keep the Fringe safe from the various criminal elements that infest it.

However, their true goal is to keep the chaos and crime of the outer regions from spilling back into the Core Worlds. Their job is immense and never-ending, policing a huge amount of space with scant resources and even scanter aid from both the Core Worlds and the Fringe (who tend to resent outside influence on their territory, except during the immediate aftermath of a terrible crime that they are ill-equipped to handle).

Thus each day the fearless men and woman of the Star Marshals must battle a tide of never-ending lawlessness and hostilities. Space pirates are, of course, the most plentiful foe that the Star Marshals must face, and frequently (but not always) the crimes that they commit are the most horrific. However, in fact the tasks deeded to the Star Marshals run the gamut from dealing with criminal and/or exploitative corporate actions, rebellious military generals, and alien incursions into Fringe space. Those that succeed at these daunting tasks become legend. Those that fail are simply dead.

In the end, the task of the Star Marshals in endless and thankless, but those few that hear the call, answer it and conduct themselves with pride and honor.

In the vastness of space, few will ever see justice, unless you bring it to the,

It’s that time again, the time where we all sit back and think about how thankful we are. Thankful for customers and our legions of game writers, editors, and artists. Thankful for our families who let us do this and our daily existences at “normal” jobs that get us through the dry periods.

Some of us are thankful we can still create—that we haven’t lost our senses or our capabilities despite getting older and more bogged down with stress and such.

We are grateful for all these things and hope to continue serving the gaming community in the future.

Have a wonderful holiday should you celebrate and a stress-free December as we transition into the new year.

Here are this month’s releases.

IF Threats, Star Pirates
AVG 3100-2.0- PI

Space Pirates

Vast fortunes are made extracting the many resources of the worlds of the Fringe, where there is little law and even less oversight from the otherwise watchful eyes of the governments back home in the Core Worlds. Yet, while large sums of wealth are traded back and forth amongst a few, the bulk of the population out in the Fringe lives in abject poverty, sometimes even in slavery.

This combination of wealth outside the Core’s watchful eyes and insufficiency among many—it is a heady mixture that produces piracy. The allure of seizing a wealthy cargo to become instantly rich (or at least well-off for a time) succors many. Should they make the attempt, and survive the results, the dream can even become true. (Until the day the Star Marshals come knocking on their door, of course.)

While pirates are commonly known for being an independent lot, in actuality, a surprisingly large amount of the piracy that occurs is sponsored. Of this, the most common type is corporate piracy—pirates given a free hand to seize whatever they can of assets of the sponsor's rivals (corporate, government, or civilian). Since the corporations are oft the most sizable force of law in the Fringe, it can wind up being a very free hand indeed, as long as the pirates are caught somewhere where the sponsor has influence, as opposed to a rival power. These corporate privateers may, from time to time, be tasked by the sponsor with seizing particular cargo, but are mostly given free reign to act as they normally would, except with an extremely favored list of people to hit (and a list of friends not to hit), with bonus pay for hitting certain targeted goals, such as taking X amount from a certain corporate rival and their agents.

Privateers are far from the only pirates operating within the Fringe. On the other side of things are those awful individuals that give piracy its feared reputations—the most depraved, the most foul in deeds and action. Slavers, killers and kidnappers, these pirates are well-known for boarding ships in the deeps of space and raping, torturing, and killing everyone on board. They prey mainly on small trade ships and transports, but occasionally raid outlying outposts and colonies with equally brutal force and carnage. There are countless bands of these pirates, some as small as a few hard individuals, or as large as the Pirate Lords of the outer belts, with thousands of blackguards and hundreds of ships within their company. Some of these Pirate Lords have made such a name for themselves that they are even known by the common citizens back on the Core Worlds. Names such a Black-Eyed Pete and the pirate queen Morgan the Red-Handed. Others, though, are just nameless killers and raiders, seeking a quick path to riches within the hardest part of the galaxy that is the space frontier.

Inside you will find all you need to run Star Pirates in your IF games. New advanced classes and more adventure wait, so take a flight into the night skies and have an adventure.

Bring money into the house at midnight; leave food at a crossroads; anything you do the first minute of the New Year will be sure to repeat for the rest of 2017.Such little traditions can be found anywhere, and can offer local color to any campaign... even on other planets. Likewise, a campaign can take a simple superstition and build a plotline around it. So spit in your hat, walk around it three times, and make a wish…

Or the boogeyman might get you.

Of course, this in no way means these creatures must be used with this new world—they do not even need to be used in the Fringe setting. This new Origin World is, instead, intended to be a way of introducing strange and otherworldly sci-fi creatures into a campaign within their own unique world with as little need for work from the Gamemaster to make that happen. These oddities come with a world ready made to receive them, a world that can be plopped down ready-made into any Infinite Futures or other science fiction campaign.

Scorched Earth
AVG 5800
132 Pages
$14.99
Jeff Gomez

Scorched Earth is an adventure roleplaying game inspired by Mad Max, Fallout, and a long line of gritty post-apocalyptic fiction. This is a game of survival and chaos, a world where society has broken down and life is a struggle. Post-apocalyptic America is rife with madness and death, radiation and sickness, famine and war. The players take on the roles of survivors or adventurers, those seeking to plunder their enemies, right great wrongs, rebuild the world, or simply live until the next day.

In addition to new classes, races, items, and rules, Scorched Earth introduces vehicles as a major fixture of gameplay. Seamlessly blend gunplay and explosions with high-stakes car chases and collisions. In the wasteland, a good motor can be just as valuable as a reliable weapon.

Scorched Earth uses the Pathfinder rules system and requires the Pathfinder Core Rulebook to play. The information provided in this book exists to give players the tools they need to create characters who survive in post-apocalyptic America.

Also available is the Scorched Earth campaign setting, American Wastelands which contains information on the settlements and gangs of post-Apocalyptic America, as well as new creatures and dozens of NPC stat blocks. It also provides adventure seeds and other great goodies for your game.

Join the adventure of the wild roads of Scorched Earth.

Scorched Earth, American Wastelands
AVG 5801
$14.99
80 Pages

Jeff Gomez

Welcome to the New America!

This is a land of death and strife, starvation and chaos. Murderers roam free, unfettered by moral or legal consequences. Radioactive monsters consume the unprepared and innocent. Insane scavengers protect glowing specks of land with unwarranted violence.

The few beacons of stability are nearly as bad. In the east, a madman drugs the water supply and sacrifices children for his entertainment. In the south, extreme religious fanaticism grips a monolith from the past. In the west, a deadly car race determines superiority over kin. And scattered all across this great wasteland are pockets of survivors and raiders, scavengers and soldiers, individuals and families on the brink of destruction.

The Scorched Earth Campaign Setting serves as a campaign setting, bestiary, and NPC codex.

These tools, in conjunction with the rules found in the Scorched Earth Core rulebook provide the setting, enemies, and rules needed to run a full Scorched Earth game.

Welcome to the American Wasteland. Welcome to the Scorched Earth.

Scorched Earth, Warriors of Scorched Earth

Inside you will find seven iconic characters usable in Avalon Games Scorched Earth setting. Each is a full character ready to play or use as an NPC, so strap on your guns, hit the road, and take what little you can before the Scorched Earth takes your life.

Sometimes the characters owe money; it’s how we get them into half of the scenarios we put them through. Most jobs the characters take on seem to focus on some sort of killing, kidnapping, or transporting.

However, most jobs that people would rather see done almost always involve hard labor—so don’t forget to have your characters work off a debt by tilling a field, cleaning up a big mess, or mining ore… those jobs are vital too.

Here are this month’s releases.

Insanity is a tricky subject; you don’t want to undermine someone’s very real personal experiences with mental illness. On the other hand, insanity is a common trope used to explain villains’ behavior, or even the behavior of some good guy gone wrong. I mean, not every king that does some incredibly stupid stuff can blame their actions on being ensorcelled.

So, what is one to do?

Well, for one, you don’t have to get into specifics. “Space madness” is less triggery than explaining how the captain got PTSD. Possession by creatures and master magicians also keeps the discussion away from mental illness. Blackmail is a good reason for doing the wrong thing, as well. Or just go with evil.

If you are working out a mental illness in a campaign, make sure your players are cool with it at first.

Here are this month’s releases.

Jennifer Povey

The book also comes with a full-color figure flat of each character and a full color image to show off to the players.

Inside you will find…
Star Girl, Young teen princess from the stars
Nebula, A cosmic force given life
Nova, Last of her kind and foe to evil
The Overmind, Alien Warlord
Alien Warriors, Soldiers of the Overmind

IF Threats, Chamice
AVG 3100-2.0- CH
30 Pages
$5.99
A. J. Kenning

Chamice is a lost world to be found out on the Fringe. This supplement features all the details of the fantastic creatures and dangers that wait explorers of this strange new world.

As a special bonus with the Infinite Creatures series, each creature comes with their own unique Fringe world (thus allowing for a wider range of environments than are currently cataloged in the populated worlds of the Fringe.) Of course, this in no way means these creatures must be used with this new world, or that they must be used in the Fringe setting. This new Origin World is a way of introducing strange and otherworldly sci-fi creatures into a campaign with as little need for work from the Gamemaster to make that happen. These oddities come with a world readymade to receive them, a world that can be plopped down into any Infinite Futures or space campaign.
