As much as would like this to be true, I don´t see any evidence that NASA actually successfully tested this - note that NASAspaceflight.com is not an official NASA site.

I also struggle to imagine how, if this were true, the International Business Times would be the first to pick this up - rather than, for example, NASA immediately launching a press conference to announce the scientific discovery of the millenium... NASA has been facing a *huge* struggle not to have its budget eviscerated, and now they´re somehow not saying a peep about a discovery that could get them all the funding they could possibly ask for?

It's been pretty thoroughly debunked I think. Also, the story showed up last August, I have no idea why it's doing the rounds again.

IBT is a sketchy site. Look at history of their stories. I have no idea what most of them have to do with international business. For the longest time I was convinced they were a comedy site like the Onion. Apparently they're not, but I'm still skeptical. I've moved them mentally from comedy/trolling to a tabloid with a nearly criminally misleading name to give themselves the cachet of legitimacy.

In short: If you see a story on IBT that appears nowhere else, assume it's a lie. If you find the story somewhere else, read it there instead.
