Well I managed to fire it up at least (can't play properly til tonight).
No Man's Sky appears to work on my PC at least (though it's a bit juddery even on my system - and apparently I have "medium" graphics settings!). But there are two things you need to know:
1) on the white "Initialise" screen at the start you need to hold the E button
. Not stare at the screen expecting it to do something. Not just press the E button once either. This isn't remotely obvious.
2) On the Options screens you need to HOLD the left-mouse button
to change options (not for changing numbers though - but definitely for doing things like changing to windowed mode etc). Not just press the left-mouse button. This also isn't remotely obvious.
Also it seems it needs to be online to save and loads in names of planets, and it was having a lot of trouble with that. First time I started on a nice habitable world but it was offline. Also when I tabbed out it wouldn't let me tab back in. So when I closed that and I tried again, it started me off on a new (rather less habitable) planet, and since I was online for that I could rename ("New Ganymede', natch). But then when I logged off and back on again I couldn't connect to the servers and it had forgotten the name I gave the planet.
So it's got teething problems but those weren't exactly unexpected - the amount of hate it's getting for it online is bloody ridiculous though considering it's only be playable for a couple of hours. People just want to be critical and hateful and not patient. They'll sort it out in time, I'm sure.
But at least I know it works on my system!
Here's where I started. Looks lovely and welcoming, eh?
