Solo is good. Go see it. It's not as great as Rogue One was (I liked that anyway) but then it's a much smaller-scale story about individuals - but it's basically a Star Wars Heist film. It's a lot of fun anyway! Kinda felt a bit like something out of Firefly, which was neat.

(and this is not a spoiler, but you should go in knowing that it's set about 10-12 years before Rogue One/A New Hope (after the prequels). There's a reveal that will confuse the heck out of you otherwise).

I went in with really low expectations and ended up liking it. Someone somewhere said it felt kind of like an Indiana Jones film, and I think that's spot on.

I watched it for a second time yesterday and actually enjoyed it even more! It's a good, solid movie.

I took my mom to see it yesterday. We both loved it (and my mom isn't a Star Wars Fan).
They got a great cast. and Donald Glover absolutely nailed Lando.

I watched it this week (finally).

I agree it was good but not great. I think the biggest problem that this type of movie has is that we already know that the 3 main characters (4 if you count the Falcon) cannot die or be significantly damaged. Takes a lot of the tension out of the movie. I thought Donald Glover deserved a Oscar nomination for Lando... He won't win, or likely even be nominated, but I thought his performance certainly deserved it.

Nice to see Kalessi with her natural hair color too! :)

I really enjoyed the movie. It was very good, and I agree that Donald Glover's portrayal of Lando was excellent. I was skeptical about Ehrenreich doing justice to his role, but it worked. I had to look at him as not only younger, but less cynical and still open to the idea that stories could have happy endings. Clearly, the events in this movie went a long way to shaping him into the man we saw in A New Hope.

It's too bad that the movie's box office performance freaked out Disney, causing them to pull the plug on the individual storyline movies like this one.

Did they actually decide to do that? I thought they were only reconsidering how to do future "Star Wars Story" movies, not stopping them completely. (it's daft because by any means Solo did rather well, I think it only was a loss because of all the production problems that it had racking up the costs). I do hope they do more - even if it's limited release or straight to dvd or something.

TBH I think Rogue One and Solo have been the best new star wars films we've had since the original trilogy. The Force Awakens was decent but I thought it was hindered by pretty much being a copy of A New Hope. And the less I say about TLJ, the better.

I read that all of standalone films like this one were put on indefinite hold. No filming, no writing, nothing. Maybe they are just re-thinking their approach, as you suggested. I agree that it was a bit short-sighted. Maybe Disney should try not to launch all of their movies at once: Deadpool 2 came out the week before Solo, and Infinity War came out 3 weeks before that.

Anyway, I agree with you that Solo and Rogue One are the best Star Wars films to come out since the original trilogy. Since Disney is coming out with their own streaming channel, I think it would be better if they just had live action TV shows (kinda like CBS has done with Star Trek) available there rather than make movies. Maybe they would've been able to make better versions of TFA and TLJ.

Star Wars would work quite well as a TV show. Heck, I've been watching Star Wars Rebels and I'm loving it so far (up to the end of Season 2 atm).

It's surprisingly good. I occasionally think "oh man I'm enjoying the heck out of a kids' show, I'm such a dork" but then I get over it.

Also I wish it had existed when I was a kid.
