Good morning, Mr. Phelps.

The thread you're looking at currently has no links to free, online SFRPG resources in it.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to change this. Search the net for free, online SFRPG resources and post links to them within this thread.

As usual, if you should be caught or killed, we will wonder what the hell you were doing as you were just supposed to find and post links to online free SFRPG sources.

Good luck, Jim.

Just so people know, the sites offering the pdf's of the old "Star frontiers" game are legal and allowed.

It's a free mapmaker that has some options for making traveller maps, so it's useful.

As long as it's legal it's OK to post here - illegal scan and torrents etc are not OK to post though.

Of course they are. :)

In fact, the game is now free, alive and well, and there is even some rather good
(and legal) new material published for it:

Sometimes being able to create a name or expression in an OTU or other language is a useful thing.

Here are a selection of OTU and other language generators I have found on the web:
Rob Day's Language generator:
http://visionforgestudios.com/jesse/traveller/reference/index.htm
handles Vilani, Vargr and Zhodani

Jason Borneman's Random name generator
http://www.xtra-rant.com/gennames/
this generator draws on the 1990 US census so you will probably get a mix of Anglo/European and Hispanic names

Space Corsair Word Generator
http://www.spacecorsair.com/wordgen.html
my favourite word/language generator - handles Aslan, Vargr, Droyne, Darrian, Sword Worlder, Vilani, Zhodani, K'kree, Ael Yael, Bwap, Gurvin, and Ithklur. I tend to run 20 - 30 words of various syllable length at a time, save them into a word document, and then I have a little grab bag of proper names and "other" words I can draw on in a hurry.

Tribblescape Vilani name translator
http://tribble.dreamhost.com/vilani.php
This little app allows you to type in a name in English/German (I guess it handles German, want to give it a try, Rust?) and it converts it into a Vilani equivalent using Robert Eaglestone's conversion methods - Robert appears, from comments on COTI, to have done a lot of work on Vilani).

Wordlab Random word/name generator
http://www.wordlab.com/tools/t_index.cfm
There are four little tools on this page that generate names that sound like: Rock Bands, commercial drugs, companies of some sort, etc. Lots of fun and sometimes useful - you can't beat 'The Toxic Fog' as the name of a band, can you?

Oh, better mention Cthulhu Rising here, too, then! It's a really good resource - pretty much everything which is published in the Chaosium monograph is also available on the site for free. John Ossoway has often made the point that he always intends to keep the CR resources available for free, and he has a prodigious output of scenarios and new material, too.

Let's merge my other thread with this one.

FUDGE is a free rules-light RPG engine using verbal terms (i.e. Mediocre, Good, Great etc) rather than numerical levels for skills and attributes. It also has some nice features such as an elegant size-scaling and an elegant combat system. It has also been released as OGL. It is more of a toolkit for designing your RPG than a ready-made game, though.

FATE is a variant of FUDGE, also OGL.

Goblinoid Games specialize in creating legal (OGL) retro-clones of old RPG systems such as OD&D, AD&D 1E, Gamma World and old Call of Cthulhu. The retro-cloned systems are available for free in PDF format from their site.

OSRIC is another AD&D 1E retro-clone.

Microlight20 is a very cool OGL rules-light variant of the D20 system.

I've found Wikipedia to be an invaluable resource for gaming, with massive amounts of information on many subjects ranging from medieval weapons and armor to astronomy.

Solstation has a massive amount of RL astronomical data about nearby stars and their possible planetary systems, and is more or less up to date.

Basic Fantasy is another OGL OD&D/AD&D(1E) remake.

Fast And Dirty (FAD) is a free sci-fi/modern miniature wargame ruleset.
