I like your random character creation method.

Thanks.

I felt like it just wasn´t really Traveller if there isn´t some sort of career-based chargen involved.

As an option to give the rules a bit more detail without introducing too much complexity, one could turn the skills into cascade skills, with the (perhaps somewhat condensed) skills of standard CE distributed among them as subskills. The skills *are* kind of broad, and subskills could, for example, prevent a character with Combat-2 from being an expert in all formed of ranged and melee combat simultaneously.

The general idea is to allow two skill rolls per term, and allow the player ot pick one subskill of the resulting skill; to avoid separate lists of career subskills for each career and skill, we could simply let the Referee decide which subskills are available for which career - just to keep things simpler. To prevent players from over-specializing their character (with Combat-3 in the original rules, you could get Blades-6 under these), we could say that maximum rank in any skill is 1, plus 1 per 3 skill ranks within that skill field. Expertises should probably be reduced to 1 per 5 or 6 total skill ranks.

I found a name for my version of this, too.

Since all the synonyms for "really small" or "really light" are pretty much used up by now, I figured I´d go with something astronomical:

2d6 Quasar

"Quasar" is an acronym for "QUick And Simple Alternative Rules".

I wish this forum software had a +1 or thumbs up option. I would do that for "Quasar". Instead I guess I'll just type it out like a meta description.

Well, the forum does have a blushing smiley, so yeah...

Glad you like it.
