IMTU, the Ministry of Justice (and to a degree the Navy) are perpetually understaffed and underfunded. They just don't have the resources to track down every felon that escapes justice by jumping outsystem. This leads to a niche for professional bounty hunters. They track down criminals and people who skip out on their ship mortgages, in return for fairly large cash rewards.

I'm picturing the bounty hunter as one part detective, one part mercenary, and one part privateer. (i.e. starship repo man)

With all that in mind, and mostly as an exercise in game design, I decided to come up with Bounty Hunter career for MGT.

------------------------------

My current thinking is that there would be three assignments:
Investigator - responsible for tracking down and apprehending targets on planets and in space stations
Privateer - responsible for starship operations including starship combat if the target resists
Technician - a support role assisting both ground and ship operations.

Investigator skills would be similar to Agent skills (Investigate, Streetwise, etc.)

Privateer skills would be similar to Rogue:Corsair skills.

Technician skills would be similar to the various military support assignments.

----------------------

Opinions?
Suggestions?
I'm drawing a blank on the assignment names, so any help there would be appreciated!

Any thoughts or

I think the assignment names are fine for the moment.

There was a Bounty Hunter book (one of those little 64 page jobbies) for GURPS Traveller that might give you some ideas...

There was also a bounty hunter career (CT advanced chargen, I think) in one of the old White Drwarfs. I'll look it up when I get home.

They'll need some kind of credit union in order to get paid in the OTU, rather than waiting the weeks needed for the issuer to receive notice and send funds. :) Unless it's just the IMJ and the IN that issue them, and not world governments and megacorps.

As for terms, there's Skiptracer, for those that track folk down, Repo Man (Repo Sophont?), for those that reclaim those ships stolen from the bank, and Vigilante, for those amateur law enforcers or Clint Eastwood (or Bruce Wayne!?) types.

Here's a quick first pass:

Bounty Hunter

+1 DM for previous career in Law Enforcement

Assignments:
Investigator - responsible for tracking down and apprehending targets on planets and in space stations
Privateer - responsible for starship operations including starship combat if the target resists
Technician - a support role assisting both ground and ship operations.

Skill Tables
Code:

 1       +1 STR                 Streetwise              Advocate
 2       +1 END                 Investigate             Admin
 3       +1 DEX                 Deception               Comms
 4       Streetwise             Melee (any)             Computers
5       Carouse                Gun Combat (any)        Sensors
6       Jack of all trades     Recon                   Advocate

Roll   Investigator           Privateer               Technician
1      Investigate             Pilot (small craft)     Computers
2      Recon                   Pilot (spacecraft)      Drive (any)
 3      Stealth                 Astrogation             Comms
 4      Streetwise              Gunner (any)            Sensors
 5      Persuade                Engineer (any)          Mechanic
6      Melee (unarmed)         Vacc Suit               Flyer (any)

I still need to work out ranks, benefits, events and mishaps.

Any comments on what I have?

I like that you gave "Ex-Cops" a bonus. Nice touch.

My only negative reaction so far is to the Privateer. I mean if I were going to run a Bounty Hunter style game, a scout or navy could pilot the ship etc. The Privateer feels like a "redo" rather then a real different career. I would shift the Privateer and rather make the Investigator, the Support (techno-geek), and a survailance specialist or driver type or some such. Leave the ships crew to ships crew. But that is just an "at the moment" reaction.

Overall I like it though. Keep it going! :D

I have to admit that I don't like the term Privateer. It has a very Piraty feel and could give the wrong impression. Skip Tracer works for me.
