Sounds good to me. Perhaps they haven't served together on the same ship (different services) but struck up a friendship after a number of chance encounters at various scout bases during the term.

Maybe they were on the same ship during her orientation cruise. That would make more sense on a Survey ship rather than an Exploration ship. After a year or so, she was assigned to an Exploration branch, but fondly remembers that Astrogator that arrived at about the same time she did...

Examples:
"Gambler 0" means you get the Gambler skill at level 0. This is of benefit to you only if you have no Gambler skill.

"Vacc Suit" means you increase your Vacc Suit skill by 1, or gain it at level 1 if you have no Vacc Suit skill to begin with. If you have Vacc Suit 0, it increases to 1. If you have Vacc Suit 3, it rises to 4. And so on.

"Streetwise 1" means you get the Streetwise skill at level 1. If your Streetwise skill is already 1 or more, then this is of no benefit to you. If you have no Streetwise skill, or it is only at 0, you jump straight to 1.

More specific: I got Computer-0 and Medic-0 for Homeworld SKills.

Then when I got to scholar, I got Medic-0 and Computer-0 again, as part of basic training. Do I now have Medic-1 and Computer -1 in this case?

No, you just have Level 0 skills.

The same thing happens if you have Medic 1 and later get Medic 1. You still only have Medic 1.

If you have Medic 1 and get Medic, then you now have Medic 2.

If there is a skill level associated with a particular skill award, you only get it at that level, which means it is wasted if you already have it at that level or higher.
